It all started with...

A teacher.

In this age of technology, students have the vast knowledge known to mankind at their fingertips, accessible to them at any time and in any place.  As a society we have reached a point where we take our technology for granted, to the extent that an hour without our cell phones can seem like an eternity, in which we are completely removed from all ability to communicate and receive the information on which we rely.  We are unable to recall the phone numbers of our closest relatives, the directions to our appointments, the schedule of our own events, birthdays of those we love, and information necessary to perform our jobs.  This shift in societal technology dependency, while it does offer benefits that far outweigh the negatives, impacts our children.

Students of the technology generation are advancing in ways their parents could have never imagined.  They have the world's knowledge, ingenuity, opportunity, and real time news available to them in the devices they hold in their hands.  Schools across the nation are moving to a one-to-one ratio in the classroom, and students are being permitted to bring their own devices into the classroom to keep up with the fast pace of these advancements.  To most, this is a relatively simple expectation, as their parents have provided them with a smartphone, tablet, laptop or Chromebook to be used for schoolwork and social networking.  This shift in education seems only natural to them, as they have been raised with a device in hand.  But some students are not so fortunate.

Give Technology was founded by a middle school social studies teacher and her husband, a successful technology entrepreneur, who recognized a need in their own community.  Living in a rural New Jersey town, rich in the spirit of service to others, they felt compelled to bring together those families who have the ability to provide the latest technology to their children, with those who are not as fortunate.  The idea is simple: one man's trash is another man's treasure.

Give Technology's mission is to provide a device, as well as affordable access to the Internet, to everyone who needs it.  In doing so, we believe that students will be empowered to explore and learn, adults will gain the skills to re-enter the workforce, the retired will get connected with the world in ways they had never imagined could exist, low-income families will have access to opportunities and information in real time, and as a whole society will be better as a result.  With your used technology, we can not only put refurbished devices in the hands of those who will use and appreciate them, but also train them to repair them and use them in ways that can better their own lives.  We offer online and in-person training in anything ranging from basic word processing to the exchange of information and ideas online, be it via email, social media, or website development.  These are lifelong skills they recipients in turn, will be able to use to pay their newfound knowledge forward as contributors to their communities and the greater society.

It is our mission to ensure that anyone who wants access to technology and the information available to our society, has it, knows how to use it to better themselves, and in turn, gives back to society.  In the world in which we live, there should never be a single mother unable to apply for a job for lack of Internet needed to complete the application, nor a child unable to complete homework for their inability to research and produce a project for school.  We have made tremendous technological advances as a society, transferring and sharing all we do and know by means of the Internet.  It is our obligation to ensure that in doing so, we do not leave anyone at a disadvantage, but rather we offer support to ensure that we are all able to use these developments to improve our way of life.  Give Technology provides individuals the opportunity to bridge the inequality gap themselves, without the help of any taxing government agency.  We merely provide the means of exchange of goods from one man to the other, in order to improve our society as a whole.
